PJPII CATHOLIC SCHOOL
After consultation with the community, and much good work by the Catholic School Council and staff, the Pope John Paul II School Uniform
Policy was instituted in September 2005.
ADVANTAGES OF A SCHOOL UNIFORM
We believe that the Pope John Paul II uniform will:
Foster an even greater sense of unity, equity, belonging and pride for our students.
Enhance self-esteem and self discipline.
Provide an overall greater level of safety and security with easy identification of students both while at school and while on field trips.
Reduce competitive peer pressure brought about with designer labels.
Offer families good economic value, while providing an attractive appearance; and
Simply offer convenience for students and parents in daily routines.
Our main criteria continues to be to:
Provide attractive, practical and comfortable clothing that students will like to wear.
Make it reasonably simple, affordable and flexible
Common concerns addressed are that:
Due to the growing nature of our school community, new registrants may have up to 20 school days from the date of registration to acquire the uniform.
During this time, he/she must wear dark pants (no denim); and a plain top
incentives and consequences will help to ensure compliance with the policy.
Parents/guardians do not have to purchase uniform items sold by DO-RE-ME-KIDS. Uniform clothes can be purchased from any source as long as they
comply with the policy and are similar in style and colour. They can not have any visible logos or symbols.
SCHOOL CODES OF CONDUCT
AND UNIFORM POLICIES
The Ministry of Education and the York Region Catholic District School Board require all schools to have a dress code or uniform policy. The Pope John Paul II uniform policy is detailed on the following page.
Consequences for students out of uniform:
Consequences apply when a student is not in compliance with the policy. Consequences and passes are tracked and communicated to parents as follows:
1st Time: Uniform Infraction #1
2nd Time: Uniform Infraction #2 and Think Paper
3rd Time: Parent/student interview with the Principal
4th Time: Withdrawal of a privilege as determined by the school
5th Time: Principal will determine the appropriate consequence
In exceptional circumstances when hardship can be demonstrated, families may qualify for financial subsidy
after providing written request to the Principal.
To be fair and consistent a “PJPII School Subsidy Policy” has been developed.
The Pope John Paul II school uniform should be worn with pride.
